Characteristic features:

  • "syphilitic ulcer"

  • lasts 3 to 10 weeks

  • primary syphilis

  • spontaneous healing

  • mainly on lips but can also appear on tongue and gingivae

  • local lymphadenopathy

Differential diagnosis:

  • oral squamous cell carcinoma

  • TB ulcer

  • minor erythema multiforme
