Benign mucous membrane pemphigoid

Characteristic features:

  • autoimmune antibodies attack antigen at a lower level of lamina lucida of basement membrane

  • more common in females

  • desquamative gingivitis

  • vesiculobullous lesions

  • indirect immunofluorescent test is oftenly inconclusive

  • eye lesions: photophobia, epiphora, symblepharon in late stages

  • heals by scar

  • erosive lichen planus

  • pemphigus vulgaris

pemphigus vulgaris
  • systemic lupus erythematosus
